About This Website

This site is a mixed back of essays/articles, humourous and otherwise, reportage, and the occasional rant.

Typically the spellings used are British, but occasionally I'll use American when it's more expedient.  The readership of this site is a global one, but the majority of regular readers are based in Britain and the USA.

Any similarity (in the humour style) to the writings of Dave Barry (one of my favourite writers), is entirely co-incidental, a bonus, and quite frankly, as you're getting this for free, you're in no position to complain.

The Author Responds
From time to time, I get feedback from readers. Some of it I will answer here. That which I've not answered, I either don't care about, or will get around to answering at some point.

You need to do more humour. You're right.  I do.  Some of my best writing has been the more humour-oriented stuff.

I started this website when I was unemployed, and despite the stresses that joblessness causes, I managed to write humour. I want to do more of that in the future.
You seem very cynical
Yes.  I am.  Next question?

OK, but seriously, it's a crappy world out there, and whether you're paranoid or not, they actually are out to get you.  Yes, there are some genuinely nice people out there, but they are overshadowed by mean people who are just looking out for themselves.

Which kind of leads into...
Your writing seems very negative about life
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.  If you're new to the site and you read a few entries and it all seems very negative, try checking out the archives.  There's positive and humourous stuff in there!  Alternatively, keep checking back for new, more upbeat articles.
Why are you so keen to stay in the United States, isn't Europe much cooler?

I love the United States.  When I moved here, in 1999, I didn't expect to feel like this.  I thought living in the States would be a nice adventure for a few years, and then I'd come back to Europe and carry on where I left off.  It seems I was wrong.

I'm still a European, and Europe is a very cool place.  In fact in many ways it's a lot hipper and more "happening" than the US will ever be, but there's more to life than that.

Do you hate children?
No.  I quite like them, especially roasted, with roast potatoes, vegetables and a nice gravy with white wine in it.

Oh... sorry... I misheard.  I thought you said chicken.
What is your favourite album of all time?

Dummy by Portishead

Apart from the fact that Portishead (and Massive Attack and Tricky) are from the city I was born in, Dummy was a ground-breaking album, that even 10 years later, hasn't lost any of its impact or magic.
